TL;DR The 606 is an elevated, fully car-free trail running 2.7 miles through Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park. Buildings like Trailhead 606, 1611 West Division, and Triangle Square sit right beside it, putting a green running-and-biking path at your door on the hip Northwest Side.

The 606 is one of the best things to happen to the Northwest Side. An old elevated rail line turned into a 2.7-mile car-free trail, it threads through some of the city's most creative neighborhoods. Living beside it means a flat, green, traffic-free path for running, biking, and strolling, right outside. Here is where to find it.

The buildings closest to the 606

The trail runs between Ashland and Ridgeway, with access ramps about every quarter-mile, so a band of buildings sits within an easy walk of an entrance.

Trailhead 606 is the literal answer, a building named for its spot right at the trail. Nearby in Wicker Park and Bucktown, 1611 West Division, 1647 Milwaukee, and Triangle Square are all a short walk from an access point, as is Wicker Park Connection. Over in Logan Square, The Western 1920 and the Milwaukee Avenue buildings put the western end within reach.

Why the 606 is special

Unlike a street-level bike lane, the 606 is fully separated from traffic, so it is calm and car-free for a run, a ride, or a walk with the dog. It is flat and paved end to end, lined with plantings and small parks, and it connects directly into the Milwaukee Avenue bike corridor, the diagonal that runs straight downtown.

For an active renter on the Northwest Side, it is the perfect everyday amenity: a green escape and a commuting route in one.

The neighborhood bonus

Living near the 606 also means living in Wicker Park, Bucktown, or Logan Square, three of the city's best neighborhoods for food, music, and nightlife at a more livable price than downtown. You get the trail and a great scene, with the Blue Line downtown.

How to use this

If a car-free running or biking path matters to you and you love the Northwest Side, the 606 is the move, and the buildings above are the front row.
