Date-Night Map: Where to Go When You Live in a Given Neighborhood

TL;DR Every Chicago neighborhood has a great date night built in. In the West Loop it's Girl & the Goat and the Aba rooftop. In Logan Square it's Lula Cafe and The Whistler. In Lincoln Park it's Boka and the J. Parker rooftop. Here is a dinner, a drink, and an after-plan for each.

The best date nights are the ones you can walk to. So instead of a generic list, here is a neighborhood-by-neighborhood map: a dinner, a drink, and something to do after, wherever you live.

River North

Dinner at Bavette's Bar & Boeuf, the dim, jazzy Hogsalt steakhouse on Kinzie that always feels like an occasion. Cocktails downstairs at Gilt Bar's hidden speakeasy, The Library. After, a slow walk along the Chicago Riverwalk, which is steps from almost everything here.

West Loop and Fulton Market

Dinner at Girl & the Goat, Stephanie Izard's wood-fired flagship, or Au Cheval if you want the famous burger without the reservation stress. Drinks on the heated Aba rooftop, open year-round with skyline views and Mediterranean plates. After, just wander Randolph Street's Restaurant Row, which is a scene in itself.

Wicker Park and Bucktown

Dinner at Dove's Luncheonette, all vinyl records and southern-inflected Mexican at the counter. Cocktails at Dorian's, a bar entered through a record shop with hi-fi vinyl nights. After, catch a show, since live music is never far in Wicker Park.

Logan Square

Dinner at Lula Cafe, the farm-to-table pioneer that has anchored the neighborhood since 1999, or the Michelin Bib Gourmand Longman & Eagle. Drinks and live music at The Whistler, a tiny bar and music venue in one, or a fireside nightcap at the gin-forward Scofflaw. It is the city's best relaxed date night.

Lincoln Park

Dinner at Boka, a perennially Michelin-starred New American room that is plush and date-ready, or splurge on Alinea if it is a big night. Drinks on the J. Parker, the 13th-floor rooftop atop Hotel Lincoln overlooking the park and the lake. After, a walk through Lincoln Park itself, zoo and lagoon included.

Gold Coast and Streeterville

Dinner at Maple & Ash, the candlelit splurge steakhouse, or the Chicago icon Gibsons. Drinks on a rooftop at Streeterville Social at Loews, one of the largest terraces in the city. After, stroll the Mag Mile down to Oak Street Beach.
