If you work at Rush, UIC, or the Medical District

The Illinois Medical District on the Near West Side is home to Rush University Medical Center, UI Health, and several others. It is a true campus, and the smartest move is to live right in it.

If you work at Northwestern Memorial

Northwestern's downtown campus and medical center sit in Streeterville, and the neighborhood is built around it.

You trade a bit more rent for the shortest possible walk to work and lakefront living.

The Gold Coast is the strong runner-up, just a bit farther at roughly a 14-minute trip to Northwestern, with leafy historic streets and studios starting around $1,506. It is a great choice if you want a slightly calmer, more residential feel a short hop from the hospital.
