Best Buildings for Dog Owners by Nearby Dog Parks

TL;DR Dog owners know a nearby off-leash park changes daily life. By the count of dog parks within a 10-minute walk, Uptown runs away with it. Upshore Residences, The Covington, and Solverre tie for the lead with four each, with Mondrian Uptown and The Wilmore close behind at three. Here is where your dog gets room to run.
If you have a dog, a great in-building dog run is nice, but an actual off-leash park within a 10-minute walk is even better, somewhere your dog can sprint and socialize. We counted the dog parks near every building we track, using real routed walking time on sidewalks rather than straight-line distance. Here is where your pup will be happiest.

Uptown leads, and it is not close
One neighborhood stands out once you count by real walking time. Uptown takes the top five spots outright. Upshore Residences, The Covington, and Solverre tie at the very top with four dog parks each within a 10-minute walk, and Mondrian Uptown and The Wilmore follow with three apiece. Cluster a few lakefront and side-street off-leash areas together and the whole neighborhood becomes a dog haven.
River North and the South Loop fill in the rest of the list. 3Eleven and 808 Cleveland in River North, plus Sky55 and AMLI Lofts in the South Loop, each land within range of two parks. Echelon Chicago in the West Loop joins them at two, and Uptown keeps showing up here too with Somerset Place and 811 Uptown.
The permit to know about
One practical note for Chicago: every official off-leash Dog Friendly Area requires a DFA permit tag for each dog, obtained through a participating vet with proof of vaccinations. The good news is a single tag works at every DFA in the city, so once you have it, all the parks near these buildings are open to you. We cover the full map in our dog park and dog beach map guide.
How to use this
If your dog's quality of life is part of the decision (and for dog people, it is), weigh dog-park proximity alongside a building's own pet amenities. The Uptown buildings above give your dog the most room to run, with River North and the South Loop close behind.
