TL;DR Some renters have a chain loyalty, and that is fair. The closest grocery store to any building in our data belongs to Grand Plaza in River North, about 22 meters from a Jewel-Osco. Right behind it, One Chicago sits by a Whole Foods, Gateway West Loop by a Mariano's, and Eleven40 by a Trader Joe's. River North takes both of the top two spots.

Grocery loyalty is real. Some people will not switch off Trader Joe's, others want a Whole Foods for the prepared-food bar, and plenty just want the dependable Jewel down the block. The closest of them all

Grand Plaza in River North wins outright. At about 22 meters from a Jewel-Osco, that is well under a minute on foot, basically the time it takes to cross the lobby and the sidewalk. River North does it again at number two, with One Chicago about 38 meters from a Whole Foods. Two buildings, two different chains, both within a block.

The Jewel-Osco cluster

The reliable Chicago workhorse shows up the most. Jewel anchors Grand Plaza (about 22 meters, the closest of any building), 1201 N Clark in the Gold Coast (about 52 meters), The Montrose in Uptown (about 76 meters), and The Archer in Old Town (about 77 meters). If you just want a dependable store on the corner, these are your buildings.

Whole Foods and Mariano's

If Whole Foods is your store, One Chicago in River North leads at about 38 meters, with Optima Signature in Streeterville (about 78 meters) and 727 West Madison in the West Loop (about 92 meters) right behind. For Mariano's fans, Gateway West Loop in the West Loop sits about 68 meters from a store, and Schiller Place in Old Town is about 78 meters away.

Trader Joe's

The neighborhood pattern

River North takes the top two spots, and Old Town lands two buildings of its own with The Archer and Schiller Place. The West Loop shows up twice too, with Gateway West Loop and 727 West Madison. The takeaway: a handful of dense, walkable neighborhoods stack the closest-grocery list.
