Old Town runs pricier than its size suggests, because the location is prime and the charm commands a premium. Studios and one bedrooms in the $2,300 to $2,400 range are the entry, and the vintage walk-ups off Wells can sometimes beat that.

The buildings worth knowing

Old Town Park is the larger modern development and the highest-rated here at 4.6 stars, one of the pricier options at around $4,400 on average.

1225 Old Town sits at 4.2 stars across 73 reviews, a newer building near Clark/Division with a Jewel-Osco close by.

Arthurs of Old Town is a smaller mid-tier pick at 3.2 stars near Clark/Division.

The Scott Residences rounds out the newer options at 4.2 stars.

If you want the cheapest way in, the smaller vintage buildings like Schiller Place run lower, closer to the North/Clybourn side with a Mariano's.

Getting around without a car

The Brown and Purple Lines run from the Sedgwick station straight into the Loop, and the Clark/Division Red Line stop serves the eastern edge near the Gold Coast.
